There are indoor and outdoor facilities located within a short drive of Secinaro or take a full day out to the Onda Blu water park (Up the coast from Pescara but it's worth the drive, especially if you have children). Then there is bathing in the sea at Pescara or in small/large lakes such as Lago Di Sinizzo and Lago Di Scannia.
Corfinio Outdoor Pool (just through Raiano) A highly recommended mini-waterpark through Raiano and straight on at the roundabout, then off to the Right at first Village which is Corfinio .... Open from July to September …. Now with Kamikase Slide if you dare! Clean, well supervised, food on site and with good music in the background (Italian/English). The Proprietor, his Son or Wife in the Pizzaria will be happy to speak English with you! .... If you succumb to the loud speaker address saying that Pizzas are being served, bear it mind it will be White Pizza (a bit salty and plain) rather than what you may expect! The pool closes at 7pm so you might like to try the Pizzaria in Raiano on your way home.
Bathing Caps obligatory in Italian pools!
Diving at one end, Kid’s Pool at the other
Good background music Italian/English Food and Drinks on site or take your own Picnic Exciting enough to just watch! Choose which side you like the look of Left has more shade under trees
Food and Drinks on site to eat in Cafe or Pool Side
Diving at one end, Kid’s Pool at the other
Kamikase Slide if you dare!
Hire your Sun Beds, Chairs but take your own Towels
Alba Fucens .... Sports Centre/Outdoor Pool (66km/45mins) We saw this on the left as you go up the final hill towards the Alba Fucens Visitor Centre, it would make a great day out to have a picnic at the Ampitheatre and then call here for an afternoon Swim/Sunbathe. No Slides or Diving Boards but it does have a separate kiddies pool and various Sports Centre facilities. See Days Out - Alba Fucens for directions from Secinaro
Sulmona .... Indoor/Outdoor Public Pool Just off the SS17 as you bypass Sulmona on the road to Rocarrasso. Look for floodlights, tennis courts and a basketball arena off to the left. Not fantastic BUT the Indoor Pool is OK for a rainy day .... Large pool with lanes and a small pool at the top end for younger children (with water wings). Not shallow enough for babies but there are long steps all along one side to sit on. The man at Reception spoke a little English but the Lifeguard only spoke Italian, so look up the Italian for "Help, I am drowning!"
Should see it on your left going towards the Visitor Centre OK for a rainy day
The Outdoor Pool has Umbrellos & Beds. It is OK but the Music doesn’t quite reach the top end so the atmosphere is not as good as at Corfinio! The changing rooms are a bit dark and there are NO LOCKERS, so yo will need to leave valuables in the boot of your car or preferably leave them at home! And you will need 20c for the showers. €8/Day for Adults including sun bed and umbrello …. Probably more now, as that was a few years ago. (Open 11.30 - 21.30; Segreteria 11.00-13.00 and 16.30-20.00 = means someone on Reception I think?)
Tortoreto Lido (Onda Blu Acquapark) .... Outdoor Water Park (2.25Hrs) About half an hour up the coast from Pescara - 127km/2hrs from Secinaro Directions: Depart Secinaro on Local Road East for 5.6km; at Molina Aterno, bear R (SE) onto S261 for 0.6km; bear L (East) onto S5 for 9.7km towards Pratola Peligna; at Raiano, continue (East) on S5dir for 4.1km; Head for Pescara on the Toll Road A25 [E80] for 50.8km; at A14-A25 Toll Road bear L (North) onto A14 [E55] for 43.0km towards Bologna; at Teramo-Giulianova, turn R (East) onto S80 for 4.8km; turn L (North) onto S16 for 8.1km towards Martinsicuro; turn R (East) onto Local Road for 0.5km; arrive Tortoreto Lido OR Go through Molena - Acciano - Beffi - Succiano - Fontecchio (Traffic Lights) - Fedicciano -Vallecupa - S.Domenico (Lago Di Snizzo) - at Jn go Left towards L’Aquila - Follow Autostrada - past Mondo Brico - Motorway - Teramo - keep on same road at end of Motorway - Samfato - Right at Roundabout - follow Giuliamova signs
Well worth the drive out Typical Motorway Bridge
One of the best of its’ kind in all Italy with great stuff for all ages - including pool with waves, small/large slides, sunbeds, bars/restaurants etc Good for a Whole Day for or an Afternoon Session after 2.00pm for a cheaper deal. NOTE: Don't forget - No Swimming Cap=No Swimming (Unless you have a Skin-Head haircut)
See the Web Site http://www.acquaparkondablu.it for current prices and lots of photos and information (With English and Dutch Options) Open every day from 24th June to end of August (10.00am to 6.30pm)
WARNING: It seems that around here you will be required to wear a bathing hat (cuffia obligatoria) in Public Pools if you have any length of hair at all (male or female) BUT you won't look silly if everyone else is wearing one will you? (Check out me and Michael on the left!) If you don’t have one, it will only cost you €4 to buy one at the pool in Corfinio but don’t forget - No Swimming Cap=No Swimming (Unless you have a Skin-Head haircut)
Outdoor swimming in the Sea at Pescara
Outdoor swimming in the Small and Large Lakes Lago Di Sinizo is fine for a Picnic and a Dip in the water before or after visiting the Caves across the road at Grotte Di Stiffe. There is much more Tourism and Facilities at Lago Di Scanno with Picnic Areas, pebble beaches, Cafes, Bike Hire and good parking etc
Free beach at either end or regimented paid zones with good facilities
Our favourite is to park outside the Tourist Port and then walk over the bridge to choose your spot on the beach - either pay for a spot in the regimented areas with Sunbeds, Umbrellos and Facilities or there is a Free Beach at either end og the promenade.
Lots of good sand and safe bathing Turn off Right before the Caves on the Left
Lago Di Sinizzo - small lake near the Grotte Di Stiffe Caves
Worth the tricky drive to get there
Lago Di Scanno - nice picnic areas and beaches & Tourism
