Days Out from Secinaro
(Pescara)
82.5km/51.26miles (1hr 15mins)
Population 120,420; Elevation 4m/13ft
Start=Secinaro Piazza: Leaving the village, go left down the hill to find your way to the autostrad in Raiano. Take a ticket
and then take the left lane towards Pescara. As you are getting nearer, go past Dragonara & Sumbuceto exits, wait for signs
to the Tourist Port and come off at that exit. Take the third exit at the roundabout and you will have the Port on your left and
see the magnificent bridge at the end. Turn right and you will be able to park anywhere on the street or go to the next
roundabout and come back on yourself to either park on the road or actually in the Tourist Port area which is free to park.
With 16kms of golden sandy beach on the Adriatic Coast, it's definitely not crowded at Easter as you can see but, it will be
more crowded in July and August when the Romans take their annual holidays. Walk along the promenade and you will see
a Public Beach at either end or choose one in the middle where you can pay for Beach Beds & Umbrellas.
You could also try the beach at Francavilla (basically an extension of Pescara) less than 1km away - and watch out for the
intriguing Gaudi-esque holiday homes on the front.
Tourist Port
(Picnic or Cafe with toilets)
Nice Cafes with Toilets at the Port!
(and a big anchor)
The walk along the seafront/promenade is excellent and relaxing but beware of
Cyclists etc NOT using the Cycle Track (That will be me then!)
Feel free to walk around the Port
(That one’s mine!)
Nice Water Sculpture
(Top end of the promenade)
Magnificent Bridge - Ponte Del Mare
(For Pedestrians or Cyclists)
More than enough Beach
(Public or Private-Pay for Bed/Umbrellas)
Typical Private-Pay Beach
(Regimented lines of Bed/Umbrellas)
My favourite is to park on the road outside the gate of the Tourist Port (which is free parking), from where you can walk
inside the Port and enjoy a walk round or an ice cream/drink/toilet break in the cafe! Then walk over the bridge to the
beaches and promenade. (Although parking inside the Port is also free).
