General Information
If you are eating out, you will need to know your Knife, Fork and Spoon in case you don’t get one! Un Coltello (Knife), La Forchetta (Fork)
and Un Cucchiaio (Spoon). If you want a teaspoon it is Cucchiaino. Also, don’t forget to hang onto your knife & fork after the first course
(Prima) - you will use the same for your Main Course (Seconda)!
If you don’t like the little cups of STRONG Black Coffee, then you need to know
what to ask for! …. Caldo (Hot) or Fredo (Cold) if you happen to like cold
cappucino? In either case, you might need to get used to “luke warm” water in
your tea/coffee! (you will find that a Capuccino in Italy is not as Piping Hot as we
tend to have in England - maybe we are not as Italian as we think? You will
probably be asked if you want Chocolate sprinkled on top, to which the answer is
“Si, grazia”.
Italian Drinks
una tazza di cappuccino
per favore (Please)
una tazza di tè per favore
Ordering a Cup Of Tea/Coffee and getting it “suitably English” is an art form in its self!

Gluten Free /Vegetarian
There is a good Gluten Free section at the Carrefore Supermarket on the way to Sulmona and, if you are eating out, you
can ask if they have any Gluten Free options (Avete Senza Glutine?). For Vegetarian (vegeteriano) you need to interpret what the Menu
has to offer but you can ask:
Sono vegetariano/a (I am vegetarian - male/female)
Non mangio carne, nè pollo o pesce (I don't eat meat, chicken or fish.)
Sono un vegano/ una vegana. ...
Sono strettamente vegetariano/a (I am a strict vegetarian - male/female)
Non bevo il latte. ...
If you want Gluten Free Ice-Cream, you can get some in Rocca Di Mezzo, on your Left, halfway up the main promenade.
