Terrormoto 2009 (Poem1)
Written a few weeks after the Earthquake Mother Nature playing games Showing her power and rattling her chains. Moving the furniture, shaking the doors Cracking the plasterAnd rocking the floors. What size would you like sir? We don’t have a lot. Actually, I’ll do the choosing, You’ll take what we’ve got! A three on our Richter Scale, you won’t see or hear But it will make you feel sea-sickAnd definitely queer! A four’s a bit stronger and recorded on charts, but it won’t bring the house down or break people’s hearts. A six is a “Special”, hope your foundations are strong? It’s “pot luck” what happens to you and it won’t take that long! Thirty seconds - a minute, with an Earthquake like sound, YOU can just sit there …. and hope that you’re found! Sir, it’s not over yet - It’s the fear that lives on Two weeks since it happened - and the tremors have gone! But most people are outside and living in tents. Scared to sleep inside …. if they’ve got any sense. A few brave ones sleep inside – saying maybe it’s gone? But they’re not SO brave – because they keep their clothes on! So respect Mother Nature and what she can do. Let’s hope that these things never happen to you! Respect Mother Nature and what she can do BUT LET’S HOPE SHE DOESN’T! John Steels (April 2009) …. Following the disaster in L’Aquila on 6 th April 2009 at 3.30am P.S. Earthquake in Italian is “Terremoto”
